AECOM Geckoella has provided a team of ecologists to carry out a range of surveys for the HS2 Rail Project. We have carried out Phase 1 habitat, scoping and protected species surveys. The tasks include fieldwork, desktop data analysis, presentation and reporting, as well as team, data and project management and fieldwork (2017-ongoing).
ATKINS We have also provided teams of ecologists to Atkins to carry out similar work for the HS2 Rail Project. Our work has in particular included Ecological Clerk of Works services in support of Ground Investigation Works, as well as Ecological Surveys and Access / Landowner liaison. Tasks include fieldwork, desktop data analysis, presentation and reporting, as well as team, data and project management (2013-ongoing).
SOMERSET COUNTY COUNCIL We provide geological advice on Minerals Policy, Plans and Responses to Planning Applications. Tasks include Expert Witness for Public Inquiry, GIS mapping and analysis, and economic analysis of the quarry industry in Somerset (2010-ongoing).
BIOCENSUS We are Fieldwork Coordinators and ecologists for a range of projects including:

  • National Grid’s Hinkley Connection Project including GCN and reptile surveys, and Ecological Clerks of Works (2013-14);
  • HS2 Rail Project (2013-ongoing); and
  • a range of commercial, residential and energy developments across the country.
SCOTT CAWLEY Galway City Transport Project, Ireland. Bat Surveys and Reports to inform major infrastructure. Acoustic surveys and reports (analysing over 250,000 bat calls collected from 24 different sites within the approximately 10 mile-long survey area) and radio-tracking surveys and reports to determine roost locations and sensitive areas. A project led by Arup.
BALFOUR BEATTY RAIL Ecological surveys, reports and advice for the Crossrail project, including Ecological Clerk of Works (2014-ongoing)
PETER BRETT ASSOCIATES Habitat, protected species and other ecological surveys for large and small transport, residential and energy developmentsin England (2013-ongoing)

  • Habitats: extended Phase I/NVC/Arable margin flora
  • Protected species: Great crested newts, Bats, Water vole, Otter, Badger
  • Terrestrial and aquatic invertebrates for development sites.
KIER BAM Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Station New Build – Named Palaentologist. On-site watching brief for significant fossil finds during excavations and works (2015-ongoing).
HISTORIC ENGLAND Geological consultant for National Strategic Stone Study. We carry out county reporting and analysis of the sources and uses of building stones for counties across the country (2010-ongoing).
SOUTH WEST HERITAGE TRUST Bat surveys and Mitigation, including a License from Natural England, in support of the refurbishment of Somerset Rural Life Museum in Glastonbury. This included Glastonbury Abbey Tithe Barn, a Grade 1 listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. We enjoyed finding a way to enhance the site for bats whilst ensuring that the important built heritage of the site was also conserved. (2016-ongoing).
SOMERSET WILDLIFE TRUST Socio-economic and Environmental Effects of Climate Change on the Brue Valley, Somerset Levels, UK (2010-2014)Ecological and geological specialists within a consortium contracted by the Brue Valley Living Landscapes Project. Included GIS modelling, environmental economics and an Ecosystem Services approach.


Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management Staff and associates are members or applicants for CIEEM. We use the CIEEM skills matrix to guide our CPD.
